The Carl Berry Award & Trophy

Each year the club presents its Carl berry award for outstanding service to the club by a member who is not an officer of the chapter. This year we are proud to give the trophy to Dan Moore who has consistently served the club in many ways over the years since he joined NAR. Dan has taken on the monumental task of Car Show chairman, no small feat in itself, for several years in a row. While organizing the show and enlisting volunteers for the numerous tasks involved in the day itself as well as the weeks leading up to the show, Dan also managed to garner many of the sponsors for the event without whom the show could not be presented. he worked tirelessly before, during and following the show with a good humor and enthusiasm that was contagious.

As if that weren't enough, while he was discussing the car show plans with the administrators of Early Works (the downtown children's museum which manages the Depot and car show grounds), Dan noticed the Depot's boxcar and the decrepit condition it was in. He simply told the managers that he would replace all the sides of the boxcar if they would provide the wood. With the help of fellow NAR member Joe Thomas, Dan spend several days removing the old wood siding and replacing it with all new material.

NAR is a community-minded organization and has consistently demonstrated its commitment to serving the greater Huntsville-Madison area. Dan has always taken this mindset seriously and this year gave much of his time and effort to helping where help was needed, often spotting a need before anyone else recognized it. He did the entire exterior replacement and painting on a 40 foot wooden boxcar, he built the Grinch's Kitchen in the same car for the children's activity, he built the reindeer barn in the activity room at the Depot so children could "train the reindeer", and he built the tree house exhibit at Biscuits' Back Yard in the EarlyWorks building. You can see why it was an obvious choice to present the Berry Award for Outstanding Service to Dan Moore.
